Member Spotlight: Faye Krause

The heart of any co-op is its member-owners, and that is certainly true of the Fredericksburg Food Co-op. This monthly feature will tell you more about some of the member-owners who give their time and talents to help us on our path toward opening a free-standing, locally owned grocery store. Want to help out? Contact us about volunteering!

Name: Faye Krause

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My husband and I have lived in Fredericksburg for 20 years, but I grew up nearby in Bowling Green. I was a high school teacher for many years before deciding to pursue my passion for nutrition and become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. I have a private practice in Fredericksburg and love helping my clients live healthier lives. I also work in Stafford County for the Head Start program. The mountains are my happy place and my favorite days are spent running trails with friends.

How did you hear about the Fredericksburg Food Co-op and why did you become a member?

I heard about the Co-op from a friend. As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, I am always interested in opportunities to help people understand the importance of food choices and how they impact our health. This was a natural fit for me!

What volunteer work do you do with the Co-op and what do you like most about volunteering?

I serve on the MOVE committee and chair the recently formed Health Committee. I love to attend events such as health fairs where I can talk to people about the benefits of joining the Food Co-op and answer questions about nutrition. I have also served as a speaker for several programs that the Co-op has offered and these events are always a wonderful way for me to share information that can hopefully impact the health and well-being of our community.

What are you most looking forward to about the Co-op?

I am looking forward to being able to shop with the knowledge that my food has been grown locally and that my grocery dollars help to support local farmers and businesses and impact our local economy.

What’s your favorite thing about the Fredericksburg food scene?

I love the variety of choices that we have and the cool vibe of being in our quaint downtown area. I am a huge coffee fan and really love the great choice of coffee shops. My favorites are Agora and Katora (and they are great supporters of the Food Co-op!).

What one local food experience would you not want our readers to miss?

Sammy T’s has been a favorite of mine since my undergraduate days at Mary Washington College (yep, it was a long time ago!). No matter your food preference, there’s something for you on the menu and it’s always delicious.

What advice would you have for someone considering becoming a Co-op member?

Don’t wait! This is your opportunity to be a part of something that will positively impact this community for many years to come. If you care about the origin, quality, and sustainability of the foods you and your family eat, this is your chance to let your voice be heard.
