WE ARE OPEN FOR BUSINESS!
April 7, 2021
What an eventful April Fool’s Day. The Fredericksburg Food Co-op officially opened its doors to the public at 1 PM on April 1st 2021. And the weather cooperated in the most cooperative fashion.
Throughout the day, I saw both long-time and recent owners come to appreciate the result of five years and seven months of effort. On the front of the building they saw our bright orange carrot proudly displayed on two levels in 3D. And they saw our outdoor dining area, an awesome addition with its red brick pillars and black enamel fence.

Inside the front door, the names of 1800+ founding owners are proudly on display for all to see. Once inside the store, the produce section beckons with fresh asparagus, Brussel sprouts, red leaf kale, baby spinach, blueberries, artichokes, collard greens, oranges, lemons, and even micro-greens from local producer Thompson’s Trading Post.

The bulk section has large bins filled with all kinds of granola, nuts, rice, and beans, including several varieties of lentils … one of my favorites. There are also smaller bins containing all types of flours and grains such as couscous, barley and farro.

Right across from the bulk bins are machines to make your own fresh peanut butter and almond butter … and spice jars filled with spices from around the world.
I can hardly wait to get back to explore more of the healthy and unique offerings. It will take many, many trips to comprehend all the fantastic products the store has to offer. I was particularly pleased to find so many local items in the store, including offerings from local food purveyors Juan More Taco, Foode, and Alpine Chef; fresh roasted coffee beans from 25/30 Espresso; and personal care products from Walnut Hollow. These are just a few of the full range of grocery, household, and personal care items available.

Everything about the store far exceeds my wildest expectations. And the comments I have received from our owners, future owners, and shoppers have been overwhelmingly positive. If you have not yet had the opportunity to shop at the store, you are warmly invited to come in as soon as you can. You will not be disappointed.
Sincerely,
Gerald L. Anderson, Board Chair
