WE ARE THRIVING TOGETHER!

February 15, 2023

On April 1, 2023, the Fredericksburg Food Co-op will celebrate the second anniversary of the opening of our store! We have certainly come a long way. A community-owned grocery store was a new and untried idea in this area when our Co-op was incorporated in 2015. But, with your support and amazing work by our staff and volunteers we were able to open a beautiful store in 2021. We have had a very successful two years.

A celebration in honor of the second anniversary of the opening of our store is being planned and more details will be forthcoming about it, so stay tuned to our e-mails and social media sites for more information.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to our legion of owners, now surpassing 3000, who have believed in the concept of a community-owned grocery. We also deeply appreciate the more than 200 Co-op owners who participated in our 2019 and 2020 capital campaigns and provided the bulk of the funding that enabled us to open our store. Your continued generosity has also made our fundraisers, such as the 5K Race, and the Harvest Celebration big successes. These fundraisers support our “Food for All” program which helps make healthy foods more affordable to those in need in our community.

Thank you to our loyal shoppers.  Please continue to spread the word to friends and neighbors about the great store we have created here. The message still needs to get out that we welcome everyone to shop, not just our owners. Remember, we are not just a grocery store, but a place where people and ideas come together!

As we move into our third year we have new challenges. We have a new Interim General Manager in Suzie Grumko. Suzie is doing a great job as we continually strive to improve our operations to meet today’s economic situation. As the newly elected Chair of the Co-op Board, I want to invite anyone who has an interest in becoming more active in our Co-op to volunteer, attend a Board meeting, or run for a position as a Board member. As a community-owned business, we cannot move forward without the active involvement of interested individuals. Let’s all work together to make our next year the best ever!
