Food Co-op a “game changer”
During National Farmers Market Week, the Free Lance-Star recognized the Fredericksburg Food Co-op as a potential game changer in bringing the benefits of local agriculture to our community. We’re delighted by this wonderfully supportive FLS editorial.
At the heart of the Fredericksburg Food Co-op is a focus on healthy local foods and a commitment to the environmental, health and economic benefits that a co-op can bring to the Fredericksburg-area community.
In case you missed the article, here are the supportive comments on our co-op:
“What could be a game-changer in the farm-to-table concept is the Fredericksburg Food Co-op. The initiative to create a community-owned grocery store that sells local foods and natural and organic products recently surpassed its 800-member plateau, the level at which it can hire a manager and seek out a location.
Membership is gained by making a $200 donation toward the co-op and makes each person in the household a member. Membership brings discounts and other benefits and does not need to be renewed or maintained with additional funds in the future. When the co-op reaches 1,000 members, it can open for business.”
We are grateful for the strong support we are receiving and more than excited by the growth of our co-op. Much work and continued growth are needed to make this dream a reality for the benefit of our wonderful community.
If you are already a co-op member, please encourage your friends and neighbors to join. If you’re not yet a member, please consider joining us. Help us get to 1,000+ co-op member-owners!
