π₯ What Youβll Need:
-
White or brown hard-boiled eggs (white will show colors more vividly)
-
Natural dye ingredients (see below)
-
White vinegar
-
Water
-
Saucepan & bowls or jars
π Natural Dye Ingredients:
Each of these common kitchen items creates a beautiful, earthy hue:
Color | Ingredient | Notes |
---|---|---|
Blue | Red cabbage | Simmer chopped cabbage |
Pink | Beets or raspberries | Beets make a stronger dye |
Yellow | Turmeric | Use 1β2 Tbsp per cup of water |
Green | Spinach or parsley | Softer, pale green tone |
Orange | Yellow onion skins | Simmered for 30β40 minutes |
Purple/Gray | Blueberries | Smash and soak for deeper color |
π§ͺ How to Make Natural Dye:
-
Boil the ingredient: Combine 2 cups of water with 1β2 cups of your chosen dye material. Simmer for 30β45 minutes.
-
Strain the mixture and pour the liquid into a bowl or jar.
-
Add 1 tablespoon of vinegar to every cup of dye liquid β this helps the color stick.
-
Soak the eggs: Place your hard-boiled eggs in the dye and refrigerate for several hours or overnight for deeper colors.
-
Let dry on a rack or egg carton. Enjoy their natural, speckled beauty!
β¨ Tips for Best Results:
-
The longer you soak the eggs, the deeper the color.
-
For a glossy finish, rub a tiny bit of cooking oil on the dry eggs.
-
Try layering colors by dyeing in one color, drying, and then soaking in another.
